Getting rid of weeds to grow grass?

We bought a house last fall on an unfinished lot with tons of weeds. When we came to see the house there were weeds growing up along the house and porch and on the rest of the lot. The sellers were nice enough to clear them all out before we moved in, but now it is spring and they are growing back. We want to put in a yard this summer which entails removing the rocks and leveling the ground. What are some good ways to get rid of our weeds so that we can actually work in the yard? We have a private well, as do our neighbors, so we want to avoid using chemicals as much as possible.

But grass and weed are the same thing.
Reply:If you don't want to use chemicals, then i suggest digging the weeds out then cutting the grass and putting it over the hole you dug. Hope this helped alot.
